The Dictionary of Ethical Politics

Weekly Update #10 - April 28, 2009

This week:

   * Introduction - Getting back up to speed
   * New Ethical Politics Blog on openDemocracy
   * New draft definition from Andrew Harvey
   * New Contributors - Welcome William Catton, Anthony Dworkin, Charles Eisenstein

Welcome Back!

We hope that your brief hiatus was restful and inspirational. I enjoyed corresponding with you all over the last few weeks and finding out where each of you were in your process. Enthusiasm is high and we seem primed for a big spurt of entries over the next few weeks as we push towards the first deadline.

There are two months left before we close the first writing phase on June 30th. By now, all of you should have identified the terms you wish to define. Optimally, you will be able to stagger your entries over this 60 day period to avoid bottlenecking at the deadline.

New Ethical Politics Blog on openDemocracy

During the hiatus, we soft-launched our Ethical Politics Blog, a companion platform for the Dictionary project edited by yours truly. The purpose of the Ethical Politics Blog is to cover the new economic and political thought being generated by our Contributor base and how it relates to the four "E"s of the new epoch: Environment, Ethics, Ecology, Economy (with "Ecology" being seen more as an ideology, and "Environment" being an applied issue). It's a place to see what other people are saying, and doing, and appeal to emerging problems without "playing into the catastrophe."

This is an excellent opportunity for all of you to showcase some of the work of you or your colleagues. Please send any notes, tips, links, leads, or the like to me for posting.

The Blog will be housed in the openEconomy section of OD: http://www.opendemocracy.net/taxonomy/term/5863/0

Here are the first two entries:

   * "American Public Media's "Greenwash Brigade" kicks off OD's "Ethical Politics" Blog" (04.10.09)
   * "DEP Contributors Offer New Models for Financial and Economic Systems(04.20.09)
